What are codecs? I get an error message that I don't have the right codecs to play avi or mp4 files on both the Windows Media Player and Movie Makers. Anyone know how to fix this? I've downloaded some stupid program that supposedly fixes it but it didn't work.

Install VLC and use that.

I want to edit them though with movie maker.
